I love these WWII stories. The witnesses are slowly dying off. These video clips are treasures.

I’m not sure humans 12,000 years ago made and drank so much beer.  Interesting but speculative clip.

From what I have heard there is evidence of bread making going back 12,000 years.

Google AI says: The earliest direct evidence of bread-making dates back approximately 14,400 years

We know that humans began to use grains more after coming out of the last ice age.  Twelve thousand years ago, the Fertile Crescent was much more suitable for growing grains than it is today.

From what I've heard, it didn't take long for humans to figure out how to make beer.

Although I detest alcohol and what it does to people, it seems to have played a major role in the entire history of civilization.  It was likely an incentive for agriculture.

Drinking something with even a low alcohol content might have been safer than drinking water.  Beer may have served a practical purpose in early civilization.

Ancient Egyptians were expert beer makers.  They paid the pyramid workers partially with a low-alcohol beer referred to as "liquid-bread".  They would eat a grain porridge that had beer in it.

Monks in the middle ages were also expert beer makers.  People who went to church would be served a pint of beer afterwards.

Reportedly, early America often used taverns as meeting places, which may have played a role in the revolution.  Some Europeans described early America as the drunkest country on Earth.  The Whisky Rebellion led to the formation of the US Constitution.

Evidence of beer making goes back 13,000 years to the Rakafet Cave in Israel, where hunter-gatherers left behind stone mortars used to process and ferment wheat or barley into a liquid porridge. [1]
Other early milestones in the history of beer include:
  • 9,000 years ago (China): Chemical residues on ancient pottery at sites like Jiahu and Qiaotou show people brewed a sweet, fermented beverage from rice, honey, and fruit (often for ritual feasts). [1, 2, 3]
  • 5,500 to 5,000 years ago (Middle East): Jug fragments with beer stone residue at Godin Tepe in the Zagros Mountains of Iran provide the earliest chemical proof of barley beer. Around the same time, the Sumerians and early Egyptians began documenting and scaling up production. [1, 2, 3, 4]
  • 3,900 years ago (Mesopotamia): A Sumerian poem honoring Ninkasi, the patron goddess of brewing, preserved the oldest known written beer recipe.

America's Bismarck: How Lincoln Created Industrial America - The Globalist

https://www.theglobalist.com/americas-bismarck-how-lincoln-created-industrial-america/

This website has a more negative take on Lincoln than I like. However, I didn't know how strongly Lincoln supported industrialization and economic development, and how he pushed policies that encouraged industrialization. This is in stark contrast to Thomas Jefferson, who thought that we should be a nation of farmers. Initially, we were.

I am watching the movie Lincoln for the third time. This film gave me a more favorable impression of Lincoln.

The most common criticism of Lincoln that I tend to agree with is that he was President during one of the bloodiest wars in our history. Although the exact number is not clear, somewhere between 650,000 and 750,000 people died as a result of the war.

Although the South fired the first shot at Fort Sumter, Lincoln's cabinet had discussed evacuating the garrison to avoid war with the South. Instead, Lincoln decided to provision the garrison rather than evacuate it. He sent supplies but initially no additional troops or weapons. The Confederates chose to attack the fort before the supply expedition arrived, beginning the armed conflict.

Many people have argued that Lincoln could have avoided war by accepting Southern secession temporarily and attempting to negotiate reunification later. Although slavery was a just cause, Lincoln said that if he could restore the Union without freeing a single slave, he would do so.

Lincoln made it clear in his inaugural speech that he would not allow the South to peacefully secede from the Union. He compared the Union to a contract that all parties were bound to.

So it is easy to view Lincoln as a man who was prepared to risk a bloody war rather than negotiate.

Lincoln said that people think that he controlled events, but that, in fact, events controlled him.

He also made statements indicating that he believed Blacks and Whites were not equal, and at one point explicitly said that he favored Whites occupying a superior position.

How Marxism RUINED this country

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pD_pBIkbLmQ

In the Netflix streaming series The Crown, the Queen goes to Ghana to meet Kwame Nkrumah in an effort to keep the country loyal to Britain. In one scene, she dances with him at a party, and this softens his anti-British attitude.

The dance was real...

'According to intelligence documents released by the U.S. Department of State's Office of the Historian, "Nkrumah was doing more to undermine [U.S. government] interests than any other black African."

Nkrumah generally took a non-aligned Marxist perspective on economics, and believed capitalism had malignant effects that were going to stay with Africa for a long time. Although he was clear on distancing himself from the African socialism of many of his contemporaries, Nkrumah argued that socialism was the system that would best accommodate the changes that capitalism had brought, while still respecting African values. He specifically addresses these issues and his politics in a 1967 essay entitled "African Socialism Revisited"'
